randomness

Student teaching is still going well. I am teaching all the time now (and my cooperating teacher was out of town all of last week). I am quickly figuring out what it really feels like to be a teacher! I am always exhausted. This weekend was the UCTM (Utah Council of Teachers of Mathematics) Conference. I paid to go to it because I am a nerd and because I felt it would be beneficial. They gave us dinner one day and breakfast and lunch the other day. I went to some neat classes and am inspired to do things a little differently in my classroom. While I was at the Conference, I did a couple other cool things:

1. I bought Pi earrings! I love them. It was hard to take a picture...sorry it's blurry.
2. I bought one of those things to go around your license plate that says "I'd rather be deriving." It's funny to any calculus-lover.

3. I learned how to make origami! And I really like it. Here are some of my most recent creations:

Other random stuff:

My hair color is still vibrant and hopefully will last for awhile. I actually really love it and that kind of scares me because I think I like this color better than my natural color. Sorry, Molly.

Those of you who know me well know that I have a lot of medical problems; thus, I take a lot of medicine. At night, I take 11 medications. I have them all in a drawer together, but almost all of them look the same, so it would be easy to forget one or two. Recently I realized that--without even knowing it--I am thinking about "pill partners" to ensure I have all my pills before I take them. So when I get out a pill, in my head, that pill has a partner. It may be partnered with another pill because of coloring or it may be because I was prescribed those pills around the same time. I realized that I've unintentionally been making sure I take all my pills by using this "method." My pills always have a partner--except for the big pink one. That one is always partner-less. Isn't that so random? I have no clue when I started thinking about my pills that way, but it's really effective in helping me remember all of my medicine. Here I have my partner pills grouped together:
And yes, I swallow all of them at once. Easily.

OK so I dont know which is more nerdy. Your love of math or your partnering of meds. But you DID make me laugh. I wish i could see your license plate thing! Maybe in a few years..... While I may not be able to see your license plate thingy, I CAN see your pill partners when you are home for the holidays. :o)

-UCTM sounds cool. I'm glad you went.
-Hair is cute, but don't give in to the dying world.
-Your pill partner thing makes perfect sense to me in my head.

That is all. :)

I still can't believe you have betrayed the blondes. I agree with Katie, PLEASE don't go into the dying world. That would be so tragic. I love your pill partner thingy. So you. And I love that you took a picture of it. The origami is very cool! It reminds me of those things that Court and Julie decorated your room with forever ago. I'm excited to see the pictures of your new math things!

I hope you don't swallow the inhaler easily. That'd be quite a feat. ;-)

I never comment because you're on my greader and it's just too much effort to go to your blog. But it's very entertaining. I showed K&E your license plate and frame--they pretty much sum up your life. I have to echo Katie and Molly's sentiments--the hair is cute but don't go dying it purple or anything weird. I'm glad you enjoy teaching so much. I love you.
That is all. :)

Pill partners. That is soooo something I would do. Honestly. We obviously come from the same gene pool. :)

Your hair is so cute! It was fun to read about what you've been up to lately. I can't believe you bought such a nice car without going into debt! That's awesome. Glad to hear you're enjoying student teaching.

I went to every possible conference and inservice for teachers while I taught, and I never regretted any of the money spent. It helped me be a better teacher. So good for you. And I love the pill partnering. I had no idea you took so many pills. I love that I get to learn things about you by reading your blog.
